A worked page

Not just the answer. The working.

Here's how this maths solver works, on one real problem: it reads the question, solves it one step at a time with the reason for each move, then checks the answer by putting it back in.

① We show the problem as we read it — fix it if we got it wrong.

For the problem we read:2x^2 - 7x + 3 = 0Not what you meant? Edit
  1. 1

    Read off a, b and c

    Compare with ax^2+bx+c=0.

    a = 2, b = -7, c = 3
  2. 2

    Work out the discriminant

    Δ>0, so there are two different real roots.

    Δ=(-7)^2 - 4 × 2 × 3 = 25
  3. 3

    Factorise

    Find two numbers that multiply to 2×3=6 and add to -7: -1 and -6.

    (2x - 1)(x - 3)=0
  4. 4

    Set each factor to zero

    If a product is zero, one of its factors must be zero.

    x=1/2 quador x = 3

Same idea, new numbers: 3x^2 - 10x + 3 = 0

Topics

One maths solver, every topic. Or find your exam.

Free maths calculators with full working, from fractions to limits. Each one runs on the same engine and comes with a guide to the method, a worked example and the mistakes examiners look for.

Honest by design

We'd rather say not sure than be wrong.

Verified· checked by substitution

How the maths solver checks answers

When a problem has a definite answer, we check ours independently: by putting it back into the question, or by testing it numerically at many points. Only when that passes do we stamp it Verified — the engine never marks its own work.

Not independently verified

What we can't check

Word problems and proofs can't always be checked by a computer, and neither can the way a story was turned into an equation. Those answers are marked Not independently verified, so you know to look twice.

Safe for students

No ads, ever. We never sell student data. We don't store your photos. The AI only talks about maths.

The AI providers we use may keep short-term safety logs. Our privacy policy names them.

For parents

Paying for a student? Here's what they get.

Step-by-step help that explains the maths, not just the answer — on any phone, tablet or school laptop, with nothing to install.

Still stuck? Contact us
Is the maths solver free?+

Yes. Step-by-step working on every calculator is free, with no daily limit, no sign-up and no ads. Photos and word problems use AI, which costs us money to run, so you get 3 free AI solves a day — 5 with a free account (you need to be 13 or older to create one). Pro adds 1,000 AI credits a month for exam season.

How does this maths solver work — is it just a chatbot?+

No. A chatbot predicts text, so it can sound right and still be wrong. Typed problems go to a computer algebra system that works out each step and names the rule behind it. Photos and word problems are read by AI first, and we show you what we read so you can fix it. Then we check the final answer independently wherever a check is possible, and tell you how we checked.

How accurate is it, and what does "Verified" mean?+

Verified means the final answer passed an independent check — for example, putting it back into the question, or testing it numerically at many points. The solver never marks its own work. Next to every answer we show the problem as we read it, so you can make sure we solved the right one. If we can't check an answer, we say so instead of guessing.

Can I solve a maths problem from a photo or a screenshot?+

Yes. On a laptop or Chromebook, press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac) anywhere on the page to paste a screenshot, or drag an image onto the page. On a phone, tap Scan a problem to use the camera. We show you what we read before we solve, so you can fix a misread symbol first. Reading photos uses AI, so it counts towards the daily AI solves.

Can the maths solver do word problems?+

Yes. Word problems go to the AI solver, which works out what the question is asking, writes the equation, then solves it step by step. Because turning a story into an equation can't be checked by a computer, those answers are marked Not independently verified — read the set-up line and make sure it matches the question.

Which topics does the maths solver cover?+

Fractions, long division, simplifying, equations, quadratics, simultaneous equations, statistics, limits and derivatives each have their own free calculator with a guide to the method. The box at the top of this page works out which one your problem needs. We only add a calculator when it does more than the best free tool for that topic.

Is using a maths solver cheating?+

It depends how you use it. Turn on Hints first to see one step at a time with the answer hidden, and type your own answer into Check my answer to find out if it's right before you look. Use the steps to learn the method, then try the similar practice problems. Always follow your school's rules on homework and calculators.

Is it safe for students? What happens to my photos?+

There are no ads, and we never sell student data. We don't store your photos: they're used to read your problem and then discarded. Your recent problems are saved only in your own browser, and you can clear them at any time. The AI only talks about maths. The AI providers we use may keep short-term safety logs; our privacy policy names them.
